Sprite Sheet to GIF Converter

Slice a regular sprite sheet into frames, watch the animation, and export a GIF — all in your browser. Works great with transparent PNG sheets.

Turn sprite sheets into looping GIFs, locally

A sprite sheet stores an animation as a grid of equal-sized frames. This tool slices it with a regular grid — frame size, offset, columns and rows — shows you the exact slice order on the sheet, plays the animation, and encodes a GIF when you're happy.

How to use

  1. Drop your sheet (PNG keeps transparency best) or load the sample.
  2. Enter frame width/height and the grid columns × rows. The overlay shows every slice and its order number.
  3. Set the read order, interval and looping; the preview updates live.
  4. Press Export GIF and download the animation.

Inputs, outputs and limits

WhatLimit
InputOne regular sprite sheet, PNG / JPG / WebP, ≤ 20 MB, ≤ 4096 × 4096 px
GridFrame 1–1024 px per side, integer offset ≥ 0, ≤ 256 frames total
OutputGIF, ≤ 256-color global palette, ≤ 2,000,000 total pixels, 20 ms–10 s per frame
TransparencySingle transparent color (>50% alpha threshold); no partial alpha

Good to know

  • Incomplete cells at the sheet edge are discarded automatically and reported — nothing silent.
  • Irregular sheets (mixed frame sizes, packing atlases) are out of scope for this version.
  • GIF delay is stored in 1/100 s; browsers commonly clamp delays under 20 ms, which is why 20 ms is the minimum.

FAQ

What does this sprite sheet to GIF tool do?

It cuts a regular sprite sheet — frames of equal size laid out on a grid — into individual frames, plays them back as an animation preview, and exports the animation as a GIF file with your chosen frame interval and looping.

What is a regular sprite sheet?

All frames share the same width and height and sit on an even grid with a constant horizontal and vertical step, starting at one offset. Sheets with frames of different sizes or irregular spacing are not supported in this version, and automatic detection of unknown layouts is out of scope.

How is transparency handled in the GIF?

GIF supports exactly one fully transparent color and a palette of at most 256 colors. Pixels that are more than 50% transparent in your sheet become fully transparent; everything else is quantized to an opaque palette color. Semi-transparent shadows cannot be reproduced exactly — no partial alpha in GIF.

Why were some frames discarded?

If the grid runs past the edge of the sheet, cells that don't fit a complete frame are dropped and reported on the page — usually a few pixels of padding at the right or bottom edge. Fix frame size, offset, columns or rows so the grid fits inside the image.

What are the size limits?

Input sheets up to 20 MB and 4096 × 4096 px; at most 256 frames; frame size 1–1024 px per side; total animation up to 2,000,000 pixels (frames × width × height). Frame intervals run from 20 ms to 10 s — GIF stores delays in 10 ms steps and browsers may slow down very short delays.

Is my sprite sheet uploaded anywhere?

No. Slicing, palette building and GIF encoding all happen locally in your browser. The page contains no uploads, no accounts and no tracking of your files.
